We had lots of product come in yesterday, most direct from South American farms. The farmers now send some product in their very tight, ball-like shape, like sunflowers, right after cutting. This allows more product per box for packing, which reduces freight cost, sometimes per stem freight cost is more than the flower stem cost or a significant cost addition.
Look at the sunflowers yesterday, and after hydration overnight how much they opened. Shelf life for flowers direct from farms is so much longer, I'm always amazed!!
